A small decorative trinket or pill box designed in the form of a scallop shell. The exterior features radiating repoussé ribs, each highlighted with a delicate beaded border. The two halves of the shell are joined by a central hinge and secured with a small thumbpiece on the front edge. Small, stamped marks are visible on the interior rim, however, they are too worn to be legible. The presence of significant oxidation and reddish-toned wear to the interior indicates a silver-plated base metal construction.
Condition report:
The exterior shows general surface wear and light tarnishing consistent with age. The interior displays significant oxidation, tarnish, and wear to the silver-plated finish, revealing the base metal underneath. The hinge and clasp remain in functional condition.
