This collection consists of several ceramic jugs and vessels showcasing a variety of manufacturing techniques and decorative styles. Included is a pair of Staffordshire ironstone jugs of octagonal form with fluted pedestal bases and angular handles, featuring blue transfer-printed rose motifs. The bases bear a blue printed crest marked Victoria Ironstone Staffordshire England. A third ironstone jug of identical form features a blue transfer-printed landscape scene in the oriental style. The group also includes a large rectangular earthenware jug in the majolica style, decorated with high-relief moulded blossom branches against a blue textured ground, finished with a handle in the form of a gnarled tree branch. A flared cylindrical jug in deep cobalt blue commemorates the B.S.A. Shooting Cup, featuring relief-moulded white slip details of crossed rifles and a rampant lion crest. Also present is a late 20th-century collaboration piece from the James Kent Flashpots range, featuring a bulbous body and ruffled rim in cobalt blue with a green-glazed relief-moulded Green Man face; the base is marked with the artists names Kate Malone and Steve Dixon. Completing the group is an elaborate relief-moulded stoneware or earthenware jug with a baluster body and ornate handle, featuring a classical female mask to the neck and various floral and avian medallions; the base is incised with the number 133.
Condition report:
Extensive fine glaze crazing is present on the ironstone jugs. The large polychrome floral jug has a significant chip to the blue rim on one side. The other pieces appear to be in generally good condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and handling.
