Start price: £1

Buyer's Premium:

A British Third Pattern Fairbairn-Sykes (F-S) fighting knife, a design introduced circa 1942 for issue to Commandos and Special Forces. The weapon features a double-edged stiletto-style steel blade with a pronounced medial ridge. The hilt comprises a blackened cast metal grip with twenty-seven concentric ribs, a straight steel crossguard, and a circular pommel nut. The knife is housed in its original brown leather scabbard, which retains the four leather sew-on tabs intended for attachment to combat dress. The scabbard is finished with a rounded brass chape and includes a black elasticated hilt-retaining strap. No visible maker’s marks or Broad Arrow stamps can be discerned on the blade or furniture due to the level of surface corrosion.

Blade length: Approximately 17.5cm.

Condition report:

The knife is presented in as-found, uncleaned condition. There is significant surface oxidisation, rust, and pitting across the blade and crossguard. The grip shows expected wear to the blackened finish and minor oxidation. The leather scabbard remains structurally sound but has darkened significantly with age; the brass chape shows a dark patina. The elasticated strap is frayed, perished, and has lost its elasticity.
