A decorative textile wall hanging executed in a mixed-media folk art style, depicting a Russian Orthodox cathedral with five prominent onion domes. The large central dome is detailed with gold and silver-toned metallic threads. The work is constructed from patchwork panels of floral and patterned brocade and jacquard fabrics, with architectural details and outlines defined by applied heavy twisted rope and finer cordage. The upper section contains celestial sun and moon motifs set within diamond-shaped panels. The lower registers feature a decorative arcade above a base of floral-patterned fabrics. The piece is finished with a long fringe at the lower edge and is suspended from a cord-wrapped rod. No Cyrillic signatures, hallmarks, or maker’s marks are visible on the face of the item. The item appears to be of late 20th-century production.
Condition report:
Generally good condition. There is minor fraying to the bottom fringe and some loose surface threads consistent with the textile construction and materials.
