A vintage Mamod stationary live steam model engine, specifically an SE series model. The item features a horizontal brass boiler mounted over a black-painted steel firebox. The boiler is fitted with a safety valve, a steam whistle, and a vertical chimney. The engine unit consists of a single oscillating cylinder connected to a red-spoked flywheel with a polished rim, all mounted on a green-painted cast metal frame. The manufacturer name MAMOD is embossed on the green-painted bearing housing of the flywheel. The entire assembly is set upon a rectangular, red-painted pressed steel base with perforated edges. Included with the engine is a separate, green-painted metal spirit burner reservoir with a wick.
Condition report:
The engine is in well-used, as-found condition. The red-painted base exhibits significant wear, paint chipping, and areas of surface oxidation. The firebox shows heavy scorching, soot, and rust consistent with use. The brass boiler has a dark, tarnished patina from heat exposure. The engine unit appears to be complete with the exception of the lever for the steam whistle, which is missing. No original box or packaging is present. This item is sold as an untested collectible; a professional safety inspection is recommended before any attempt to operate it with live steam.
