A large mid-20th-century British nautical starboard navigation lantern manufactured by Meteorite. The lantern is constructed from sheet copper with brass fittings and features a thick clear glass Fresnel lens designed to direct and magnify the light beam. A rectangular brass plaque is riveted to the upper casing and carries the inscription METEORITE, serial number 59683, and PATENT No 546575. The word STARBOARD is embossed in an arch on the conical shoulder above the plaque. The structure includes a tiered chimney topped with a substantial brass swing handle. The various sections are secured with rivets and solder.
Condition report:
The lantern is in good structural condition, showing an attractive aged patina across the copper and brass surfaces. There are minor surface scuffs and small indentations consistent with age and maritime service. The Fresnel glass lens is intact and free from significant chips. A small white adhesive label is present on the front of the lens.
