A pair of classical portrait busts depicting the composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Each figure is rendered in a realistic style, with Beethoven characterised by a furrowed brow and tousled hair, and Mozart depicted in a period jacket with a cravat and ruffled jabot. The busts are crafted from carved alabaster and are mounted on turned, circular pedestals of a similar stone. The rectangular plinth at the base of each figure is incised with the respective composer’s name: BEETHOVEN and MOZART. These models are stylistically attributed to the Italian workshop of Arnaldo Giannelli, active in the mid-20th century.
Condition report:
The Beethoven bust displays notable areas of brownish surface staining on the right shoulder and lapel. Both pieces exhibit light surface wear and accumulated dust consistent with age and decorative use. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible to the figures or their pedestals.
