A pair of vintage decorative glass panels featuring reverse-painted designs with metallic foil highlights. Each panel depicts a Crinoline Lady or Southern Belle figure in a garden landscape. The first panel shows a figure carrying a parasol amongst stylized floral blooms, while the second depicts a figure standing beside a sundial. The designs are executed using silver and gold-toned foils to create texture and depth against a black-painted background, a commercial variation of the verre églomisé technique. The panels are shaped with clipped top corners and are held within a wooden support structure. The reverse of the second panel’s support bears the inscription SINGAPORE. in gold-toned lettering. No manufacturer’s signatures are present on the glass. One panel bears a temporary stock label.
Condition report:
Both panels show significant age-related deterioration consistent with mid-20th-century decorative glass. There is visible foxing and loss to the silvering and painted backing throughout, particularly noticeable as darkened or speckled patches on the figures\' dresses and the ground. The wooden supports show surface wear and dust.
