This Edwardian style Davenport desk is constructed from mahogany with a warm reddish-brown finish. The piece features a traditional slanted writing surface with an inset olive-green leather scriber, decorated with an ornate gold-tooled foliate border. The main compartment is accessed via a hinged lid, revealing a mahogany-lined interior with straight-grained mahogany veneer on the underside of the lid. Positioned at the top of the desk is a separate, shallow stationery compartment with its own hinged mahogany lid. The structure is supported at the front by twin turned mahogany columns which rest on a shaped plinth base. The desk retains its original brass hinges and inset brass lock plates for both the main and stationery compartments.
Condition report:
The desk is in good overall antique condition. There are visible scuffs, scratches, and small chips to the wood finish consistent with age and use, particularly along the edges and on the plinth base. The leather scriber is intact but exhibits surface marks, moderate wear, and some fading. No key is present.
