An English oak kneehole writing desk or table, designed in the Georgian revival style. The rectangular top is inset with a weathered red leather writing surface featuring a gold-tooled decorative foliate border. The desk is configured with five drawers, comprising a single central drawer over the kneehole and two drawers on either side. Each drawer is fitted with brass drop handles on oval-shaped backplates and features a brass-lined keyhole. The piece is supported on four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The interior lock plates are stamped with the marks Record Lever and Made in England.
Condition report:
The desk is in used, vintage condition. The oak frame and legs are structurally sound but exhibit general surface abrasions, minor nicks, and a dulling of the original finish. The red leather top is heavily worn with numerous scratches, scuffs, and areas of discoloration, alongside some loss to the gilded border. No key is present.
