An assortment of nine vintage printed paper posters and public notices. The collection primarily comprises five large-format posters advertising musical events organised by the Union of Loughborough Colleges for the 1963–1964 academic year. These events include a Union Dance featuring Bob Miller and the Millermen and The Applejacks; an evening concert with Chris Barber’s Jazz Band and Ottillie Patterson; a Pop ‘A’ Jazz event featuring The Outlaws and Alan Elsdon’s Jazz Band; a Take Your Pick dance featuring Brian Diamond & The Cutters and Pete Kerr’s Scottish All Stars; and a Christmas Ball featuring the Eric Delaney Band and Peter Ricardo Latin American Quartet. The posters feature various graphic styles, including a prominent orange silhouette of a trombone player, neon-effect hand-drawn lettering, and a red and green pyramid graphic. Ticket prices are listed in pre-decimal currency (shillings and pence). Local vendor listings for ticket sales include Sketchley’s Book Shops and the T.T. Refectory.
The collection also includes a smaller horizontal notice for an event at Martin Hall, Ashby Road, and three monochrome historical-style public notices. These three notices, likely 20th-century reproductions of 19th-century broadsides, include a Coventry Canal Navigation caution dated 1861 regarding toll evasion; a public Submission notice for the Preston and Lancaster Canal; and an Aire and Calder Navigation notice dated 1886 regarding the Drowned Persons (Discovery and Interment) Act. One notice bears the printed credit for Samuel Moxon, Printer, Queen’s Court, Briggate, Leeds.
Condition report:
The items are in generally fair to good condition for vintage ephemera. Visible signs of age include natural yellowing of the paper, minor foxing, and light staining. Several of the Loughborough event posters show adhesive tape residue, surface abrasions, or pinholes at the corners consistent with previous display. The yellow Pop \'A\' Jazz poster exhibits more significant creasing and small tears along the upper edge. The historical-style notices show light edge wear.
