A hand-knotted wool rug of Afghan Baluch tribal origin. The design features a dark indigo blue ground decorated with large, stylized floral or star-shaped geometric motifs in deep madder red and ivory. The central field is enclosed by a wide border section consisting of multiple guard stripes with repeating geometric patterns in shades of brown, red, and black. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a wool foundation and finished with greyish-blue wool fringes and dark wool overcast selvedges.
Condition report:
The rug is currently rolled and exhibits surface wear and fading consistent with its age and tribal origin. The fringes are present but show unevenness and wear typical of use. No significant tears, holes, or repairs are visible on the exposed sections.
