A mid-20th century oak cantilever sewing box, likely of British manufacture. The piece features a traditional twin-lidded top section that opens via metal cantilever straps to reveal a multi-tiered interior storage arrangement. Situated below the main compartment is a single full-width drawer fitted with a patinated metal floral-form pull handle. The box is integrated into a four-legged trolley stand with square-section legs and lower stretchers, terminating in four swivel casters. The construction is primarily of solid oak and oak veneers, finished in a medium-brown tone showing a visible open grain. The second item is a small rectangular woven basket with red-patterned trim, a hinged lid, and a rope-style handle, which is currently resting on the lower stretchers of the stand.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit surface wear consistent with age and functional use. The oak sewing box shows various scuffs, scratches, and minor finish losses, particularly to the lids and edges. The metal cantilever straps and casters show typical surface oxidation and patination. The woven basket displays minor fraying to the material but remains structurally intact and functional.
