This lot comprises two rugs of varying styles and dimensions. The first rug is a small rectangular area or hearth rug in an Oriental style, resembling the Andelz pattern. It features a central stepped lozenge-shaped medallion on a rust-orange or terracotta field, decorated with stylized geometric and floral motifs in charcoal, ochre, and olive green. The piece is framed by a patterned main border and appears to be constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The second item is a long hallway runner rug in a traditional Persian floral design. It features a deep red field with three large central medallions and a dense all-over pattern of scrolling vines and foliate motifs. This is enclosed by a wide ivory-toned floral border and multiple narrower guard borders. The runner appears to be machine-made with a synthetic or wool-blend pile.
Condition report:
Rug 1 shows visible wear consistent with age and use, including some thinning of the pile and fraying to the side edges. The cream-coloured cotton fringes show unevenness and wear. Rug 2 is in generally good condition, although the applied cream-coloured fringes at both ends show significant tangling, matting, and some loss.
