Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises an assortment of vintage and antique items. A primary component is a United States military-issue pocket compass housed in a silver-toned metal hunter-style case. The front lid features the characters U.S. stamped into the metal, identifying it as official government property. The compass includes a large bow ring for attachment and an interior dial visible through a glass crystal. Also present is a pair of small field or opera glasses with yellowed barrels, likely constructed from bone or celluloid, and a central bridge with a knurled focusing wheel. These optics are in the style of 19th-century French makers such as Chevalier. The collection includes an open-face pocket watch which features a white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers, ornate filigree hands, and an outer minute track with Arabic numerals from 5 to 60. Additionally, the lot contains a small patinated brass cylindrical container, possibly a vesta case, along with broken chain.

Condition report:

The US pocket compass shows significant signs of age and field use, including heavy surface scratches and distinct spots of green verdigris corrosion on the metal casing. The opera glasses exhibit tarnishing to the metal frame and age-related darkening and minor wear to the barrel material. The pocket watch shows minor surface scratches and tarnishing; mechanical functionality is untested and not guaranteed. The additional brass and jewellery item show varied levels of wear, patina, and tarnish consistent with their age.
