A collection of silver-plated and decorative items comprising several functional and ornamental pieces. The group features a silver-plated egg cup and integral stand by Mappin and Webb Ltd, stamped on the underside with the manufacturer name in script, MAPPIN PLATE, LONDON & SHEFFIELD, and reference numbers W27562 and M. 452, alongside a Gothic letter E in a shield. Also included is a novelty silver-plated shaker fashioned in the form of a bird with textured plumage and inset orange glass eyes, mounted on a circular pedestal foot. The collection further contains a circular lidded box decorated with segmented mother-of-pearl inlay in a concentric design, a shell-form chamberstick with a central candle nozzle and ring handle, and a cylindrical condiment shaker with a hammered surface texture. Completing the lot is a selection of miniature flatware, including condiment spoons of varying designs and a miniature three-pronged fork.
Condition report:
The items show visible surface tarnish and wear throughout, consistent with age and use. The Mappin and Webb egg cup displays significant tarnish and some copper bleeding where the silver plating has thinned. The bird-form shaker and other silver-plated objects exhibit minor surface scratches and oxidation. The mother-of-pearl box shows typical age-related wear but remains intact.
