This is a large mid-century modern modular shelving and storage system, attributed to the Ladderax range designed by Robert Heal for Staples of Cricklewood. The system is constructed from multiple black-painted steel ladder uprights which support various teak-veneered components. The modular design includes several rectangular adjustable shelves and five wedge-shaped corner shelves designed to wrap around internal corners. The storage components consist of two fall-front cabinets, suitable for use as bureaux or cocktail cabinets, each fitted with an external lock and key. Additionally, the system includes a three-drawer chest unit. The metal ladder frames are floor-standing and rest upon wooden block base supports. The design allows for flexible configuration across multiple wall sections. No manufacturer labels or maker marks were identified during the visual inspection.
Condition report:
The system shows signs of wear and age-related use throughout. There are visible surface scratches, scuffs, and minor chips to the teak veneer, particularly on the shelf edges and cabinet tops. The black-painted metal frames exhibit some paint loss and superficial oxidation in places. Dust and surface debris are present. The locking mechanisms appear functional and keys are included. The system is shown in a partially disassembled state.
