This lot consists of two framed works of art. The primary piece is a hand-coloured engraving providing a panoramic topographical view of Windsor Castle, titled in Latin VINDESORIVM celeberrimum Angliae castrum and further identified on the right as Schloß Windsor. This work is a known plate from Braun and Hogenberg’s Civitates Orbis Terrarum, published circa 1575 and based on a drawing by Joris Hoefnagel. The print features a distinct plate mark around the border and includes compass orientation labels MERIDIES and OCCIDENS, alongside the inscription Cum Privilegio in the lower right foreground. The paper displays a faint vertical centrefold, characteristic of an original atlas plate. It is housed in a dark-stained wood frame with a gilded inner slip. The second item is a colour print titled Mol’s Coffee House after the artist Ernest William Haslehust (1866–1949). The artist’s signature is visible in the lower left of the image. This work depicts the historic coffee house in Cathedral Close, Exeter, and is presented in a decorative gilt frame.
Condition report:
The Windsor Castle engraving shows significant overall toning and discolouration to the paper. A vertical centrefold is visible, and there are instances of light foxing and minor surface marks throughout. The frame exhibits light scuffing and age-related wear. The Mol\'s Coffee House print shows some light toning to the mount and the gilt frame has minor surface wear and a small adhesive label attached to the lower right corner.
