A lot consisting of two traditional German-style wall ornaments. The first is a chalet-style cuckoo clock, featuring a hand-painted wooden case with a floral pediment and red-painted shutters. The decorative scene includes two animated wooden figures depicting a woodcutter and a man on a ladder. It has a dark-stained dial with gold-coloured Roman numerals and white-painted hands, powered by a mechanical weight-driven movement. The second is an aneroid barometer set within a carved wood or resin composition hunting-style mount. It depicts a stag head with antlers surrounded by a wreath of hand-painted oak leaves and acorns. The circular glazed dial features a brass-coloured bezel and is marked with weather indications including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry. Although visually similar to designs by E. Schmeckenbecher, no definitive maker marks are visible on the exterior.
Condition report:
Both pieces are in an untested state. The cuckoo clock is missing two of its original three cast-metal pinecone weights. Both items show surface dust and minor wear consistent with age and use. A join line is visible on one of the stag\'s antlers on the barometer case.
