A collection of vintage O gauge model railway components manufactured by Meccano Ltd, the makers of Hornby. The items are presented in a non-original, hinged wooden storage crate. The primary electrical component is a heavy-duty Meccano Ltd Type A2 power control unit. This unit is housed in a grey painted cast metal casing and features a central control lever with a circular dial graduated from off to maximum. The metal identification plate on the controller is clearly marked: Power Control Unit, Type A2, For Use On Alternating Current Supplies Only, 110/250 Volts, 50/60 Cycles, 18 Watts, Output 20 Volts 0.8 Amps, Meccano Ltd. The rolling stock comprises a selection of lithographed and painted tinplate wagons including a red tank wagon with Mobil logo, a brown plank-effect open wagon, a grey open wagon, a flatbed wagon with a wooden log load, and a black coal tender. The lot also includes a quantity of curved tinplate three-rail track sections. Additionally, there is a later-period die-cast and plastic forklift truck toy finished in red and green.
Condition report:
The collection is in a well-used, play-worn vintage condition. Visible paint loss, surface scratching, and areas of surface oxidisation are present on the tinplate wagons and track sections. The power control unit shows surface wear and minor corrosion to the metal housing. The electrical components are untested; due to the age and the condition of the wiring, a professional safety inspection is recommended before use. The wooden crate shows significant wear, with the interior black lining material peeling and fraying in several places.
