Buyer's Premium:

A signed limited edition colour lithograph by the maritime artist John Stobart (1929–2023), titled Blackwall Passenger Ship Malabar Leaving Brunswick Wharf, 1861. The composition depicts a detailed 19th-century London maritime scene with the ship Malabar under partial sail and steam, a Thames sailing barge, and other small vessels set against the backdrop of the historic Brunswick Wharf architecture. The work is hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin and also features a printed signature within the image. A Fine Art Trade Guild blindstamp with the letter code ABC is present in the lower left margin. As a lithographic process, the print does not feature an intaglio plate mark. A publisher’s label on the reverse from Royle Publications Limited, London, confirms this is one of a restricted edition of 250 copies. The print is presented in a decorative multi-layered mount and a gilt-finished frame.

Condition report:

The print appears to be in good condition overall. The paper surface is clean with no visible evidence of foxing, staining, or tears. The colours remain bright and well-preserved. There is minor toning to the mount consistent with age. The gilt frame shows light shelf wear and minor scuffing to the edges and corners. The work has not been examined out of the frame.
