Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two separate pieces of mahogany furniture. The first is a late 19th or early 20th century mahogany centre table, designed in the Louis XVI revival style. It features a shaped oval top with four distinctive pointed projections at the axes and a molded edge. The table is supported by four fluted and tapered legs with carved foliate capitals, which are joined by a curved X-frame stretcher meeting at a central, raised circular platform. The second item is a George III mahogany two-tier washstand, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. It features a square solid mahogany top with a finely molded edge. The upper tier includes a shaped, wavy apron on all sides, while the lower tier houses a single full-width drawer fitted with a brass drop handle. The four square-section legs are joined at the base by an arched X-stretcher supporting a central circular stand, originally intended for a water jug.

Condition report:

The centre table is in fair condition with visible surface scratches, scuffs, and finish wear to the top. Close-up inspection reveals a horizontal crack and evidence of an old repair on one of the stretcher supports where it joins the leg. The washstand shows significant signs of age and use, including a prominent vertical shrinkage split running through the centre of the top. The surface exhibits various scratches, water marks, and general wear throughout.
