This philatelic collection comprises a vintage Barbican stamp album published by G. F. Rapkin Ltd of London, a modern stock book with a pictorial stamp-collage cover, and an assortment of postal covers including numerous first day covers. The Barbican album contains a significant range of United Kingdom issues, beginning with Queen Victoria line-engraved definitives such as Penny Reds, followed by Edward VII and George V issues, including the 1935 Silver Jubilee set (Stanley Gibbons SG 453-456). George VI issues feature coronation and commemorative sets. Queen Elizabeth II reigns are well-represented with early Wilding definitives, high-value Castle series, and numerous commemorative sets from the 1950s and 1960s, including the 1951 Festival of Britain, 1953 Coronation, 1963 Red Cross Centenary, 1964 Shakespeare Festival, and 1964 Forth Road Bridge. Also present are regional issues for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as triangular local carriage stamps from Herm Island. The stock book contains later Elizabeth II Machin definitives and thematic commemorative sets from the 1970s and 1980s, including subjects such as British locomotives, birds, and Christmas. The loose material consists primarily of British first day covers from the 1970s and 1980s with thematic cancellations, notably including a 1982 Falkland Islands Dependencies cover from South Georgia. Stamps throughout the collection are a mix of mint and used examples, with many used specimens bearing circular date stamps or machine cancellations.
Condition report:
The Barbican album and stock book exhibit wear to the spines and edges. Internal pages show varying degrees of toning and foxing consistent with age. Stamps are in mixed condition; used specimens range from light circular date stamps to heavier machine cancellations. Mint stamps include both hinged and unhinged examples. Some stamps may exhibit minor faults such as short perforations or light creasing. First day covers are generally in good condition, housed in their respective storage box, with minor edge wear or occasional toning to the envelopes.
