This mid-20th-century carving set consists of a knife and a two-tined fork, both manufactured in India. The handles are crafted from a dark, dense wood, likely sheesham or rosewood, featuring hand-carved foliate and floral decoration. Both pieces are fitted with brass crossguards and bolsters. The set is housed in a matching double-ended wooden scabbard, which is intricately carved with a rose motif and foliage. The scabbard is fitted with brass bands and integrated pivoting locking levers to secure the items, and it stands on small brass bun-style feet. The blades of both the knife and the fork are stamped with the word INDIA.
Knife blade length: 200 mm.
Condition report:
The set is in good vintage condition overall. The knife blade displays visible surface scratches and signs of previous use. The brass components show a natural patination and light tarnish consistent with age. The carved woodwork is well-preserved with crisp detail and a rich colour. No major repairs or structural damage are evident.
