A mid-20th-century carved Camphor storage trunk or blanket chest of rectangular form. The exterior is constructed from Camphor and features a hinged lid. Both the lid and front face are decorated with a continuous hand-carved floral and foliate border. The upper edge of the front panel includes two semi-circular carved sunburst motifs. The chest is supported by four integral shaped bracket feet. The interior is fitted with a single sliding, lift-out wooden tray and is accessed via a continuous brass piano hinge. A brass lid stay is mounted to the interior left side. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Condition report:
Fair condition. A significant full-length horizontal split is present through the centre of the lid. The exterior shows general surface wear including scuffs, scratches, and minor abrasions consistent with age and domestic use. The interior is relatively clean, although the split in the lid is visible from the underside.
