Start price: £5

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises three framed works on paper: a contemporary drawing and two antique engraved maps. The first is a monochrome representational drawing executed in graphite and charcoal on cream wove paper. The scene depicts a horse-drawn wagon with figures in a winter setting, featuring a bare tree, a cottage, and a steam train in the distance. The work is signed and dated Roland 2008 in the upper-left corner (relative to image orientation). It is presented in a modern light-toned wood frame with a wide cream mat. The second item is a 19th-century engraved map of Europe by G. H. Swanston, Edinburgh, published by A. Fullarton & Co. The map shows geographical boundaries with light hand-tinting and is housed in a dark-stained wood frame with a gilt inner border. The third item is an 1807 engraved map by John Cary titled A New Map of Upper & Lower Canada, from the Latest Authorities. The map covers the Great Lakes and eastern Canadian regions and is presented in a simple black frame.

Condition report:

The drawing by Roland appears to be in good condition with no visible staining or foxing. The map of Europe shows overall paper toning and scattered foxing. The map of Canada by John Cary exhibits significant condition issues, including heavy foxing and dark age-related staining throughout the paper. The frames show light age-related wear and scuffs.
