A 20th-century reproduction chest on chest only, constructed in the early Georgian style. The piece is of two-part construction, featuring an upper section with a prominent dentil-moulded cornice above two short drawers and three long, graduated drawers. The lower section contains three further long, graduated drawers. The drawer fronts are finished with highly figured burr walnut veneers featuring cross-banded borders. The carcase is constructed from a stained hardwood, while the secondary drawer interiors are made from a modern mahogany-toned hardwood or plywood. The drawers are fitted with brass batwing-style handles and matching escutcheons, which are secured internally with modern machine-threaded nuts. The drawer interiors also feature modern plastic or rubber stops. The entire unit is supported on a plinth base with bracket feet.
Condition report:
The chest on chest is in very good used condition. The veneers retain a high-gloss finish that highlights the natural figuring of the wood grain. There is minor surface wear consistent with age and domestic use, including occasional light scratches and abrasions, particularly around the base and bracket feet. The drawers operate smoothly and the hardware is complete.
