A utilitarian domestic storage trunk of riveted metal construction, dating from the early to mid-20th century. The exterior features a brown scumble-glaze paint finish intended to simulate the grain of wood or leather, reinforced with three horizontal metal bands and circular studs. The trunk is designed with a barrel or dome-top lid which opens to reveal an interior finished in teal-blue paint. It is fitted with original hardware including a central metal flip-latch and two hinges to the rear. A circular manufacturer’s mark is present on the front latch plate, though it is too worn to be legible. This lot includes an assortment of vintage household textiles found within the chest, comprising a striped cotton throw and various white cotton and linen cloths.
Condition report:
The trunk is in well-used condition, showing wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian purpose. The exterior displays extensive scuffing, scratching, and paint loss, with localized areas of surface oxidation and rust. The interior shows general wear and some staining but remains structurally sound. The hardware is functional; however, no keys are present. The included linens show signs of age and previous use.
