The fins and tail are detailed with fine gilded lines, and the piece is mounted on an oval base decorated with a dark blue and gold scale motif. The base carries a red Royal Crown Derby backstamp with the date cypher L for 1987 and a gold-toned metal stopper. The second figurine is modelled as a seated ground squirrel, decorated with autumnal maple leaves in red and gold against a white ground. The head, back, and tail are embellished with cobalt blue scrolling and gold feather-like detailing.
