This collection comprises an assortment of solid silver items of varied periods and origins. The lot includes a pair of Art Deco silver-backed brushes, consisting of one handled hairbrush and one oval clothes brush, both featuring engine-turned linear decoration and vacant rectangular cartouches. These are hallmarked Birmingham, 1944, with the maker’s mark W.G.S.Ld for William Greenwood & Sons Ltd. Also included is a pair of circular sterling silver napkin rings with a textured bark-effect finish, engraved with the initials B.S.B and E.L.B; these are hallmarked London, 1917, with the maker’s mark J.B. The tableware consists of four spoons: a matching pair of sterling silver teaspoons by Charles Boyton & Sons Ltd, hallmarked London, 1911; one additional silver teaspoon; and a continental silver spoon featuring a twisted stem and an attached leaf-shaped charm, marked H.O. 830 for 830 grade silver. The lot is completed by a sterling silver band ring, hallmarked Birmingham, 1919, with the maker’s mark S.M, and a silver finger guard or sewing aid with an engraved crest depicting a three-towered castle, hallmarked Birmingham, 1919.

Condition report:

The items are in a condition consistent with age and use. Surface tarnish, light scratching, and minor wear are visible throughout the collection. The bristles on the hair and clothes brushes show some age-related discolouration but appear to be largely intact. The napkin rings exhibit minor softening to the textured detail from handling. The finger guard shows light compression and minor surface indentations.
