An early to mid-20th-century aneroid barometer housed in a hand-carved wooden case, likely oak or stained fruitwood. The case is designed with two perched owls featuring inset orange and black glass eyes, resting on a rustic, craggy base. The circular white dial features a central aperture exposing the internal aneroid mechanism and hairspring. Weather indications are printed in black and red Gothic-style script, reading Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry. The outer scale is graduated in inches of mercury from 28 to 31. The barometer retains a black indicator hand and a brass setting hand with a crescent-moon counterweight. The reverse of the metal movement casing is stamped with the characters S100. A metal suspension loop is fitted to the upper reverse for wall mounting.
Condition report:
The carved wooden case remains in good structural condition, showing typical surface wear and light abrasions consistent with age. The metal bezel surrounding the dial exhibits surface oxidation and pitting. The glass is intact and free of cracks. The internal mechanical operation is untested.
