This lot consists of three items including a replica Soviet Army Officer’s Dirk, Model 1945, and two crude, improvised iron implements. The dirk is a standard-issue military sidearm featuring a straight, double-edged steel blade with a bright, polished finish. The hilt is constructed with brass fittings and a cream-coloured celluloid or plastic grip. The crossguard incorporates a spring-loaded push-button locking mechanism designed to secure the dagger in its scabbard. The scabbard is composed of a core wrapped in black leather or similar synthetic material, featuring three brass fittings: the throat, a centre band with a suspension ring, and a chape. The throat fitting displays a relief depiction of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin on the obverse, and a five-pointed Soviet star over radiating sunrays bordered by branches on the reverse – historical collectable. The two additional items are hand-forged iron implements. One is a long, flat blade crudely hammered and tapering to a point with an integral tang. The second is a long, square-section rod twisted along its length and tapering to a sharp point, also featuring a simple, unfinished tang. These items appear to be field-expedient or improvised trench art style weapons.
Condition report:
The Soviet dirk and scabbard are in very good overall condition. The blade retains a bright finish with minimal signs of wear. The brass fittings show a light, even patina consistent with age. The leather-style wrap on the scabbard and the grip are well-preserved. The two iron implements are heavily oxidised with significant surface rust throughout, consistent with their improvised manufacture and age.
