Buyer's Premium:

This collection of eleven elephant figurines includes examples from notable European and British potteries alongside Japanese export wares. A large Royal Dux porcelain figure depicts a trumpeting elephant finished in a high-gloss graduated glaze of pale grey and brown with contrasting white tusks. The underside features a blue circular backstamp with the text Royal Dux and Made in Czechoslovakia, as well as the signature applied pink porcelain triangle mark. A Beswick Pottery figure shows an elephant in a walking pose with a raised trunk, finished in a dark brown gloss glaze, and bears an impressed Beswick England circular mark to the belly. A small Yare Designs studio pottery figurine portrays a seated elephant with a flower on its head, decorated in a multi-tonal green, blue, and brown drip glaze, with an original paper label to the green felt base. The group includes a set of four Japanese export glazed ceramic shikar figurines depicting elephants being attacked by tigers, one of which carries a black stamped mark with a stylized letter S within a wreath and Japan printed below. Also included is a stylized elephant figurine with a heavily textured sculptural surface finished in a cold-cast bronze-effect metallic glaze, a small grey-glazed elephant with a mahout figure and a tiger, and several other smaller ceramic examples in various glazes.

Condition report:

The Royal Dux porcelain elephant appears to be in good overall condition with tusks intact. The Beswick pottery elephant shows significant damage to both tusks, which are truncated with exposed white ceramic. Condition among the Japanese export figurines is variable, with at least one example showing damage to the tusks. The remaining figurines show light surface wear consistent with age.
