This Indian export carving set dates from the mid-20th century and includes a carving knife and a two-pronged fork. Both pieces are designed with dark hardwood handles, likely rosewood or sheesham, which are decorated with hand-carved foliate and floral motifs. The handles are complemented by brass collars and crossguards with ball-end terminals. The set is stored in a conjoined twin wooden scabbard in a V-shaped configuration, featuring matching carved decoration and brass-clad tips. Metal spring clips are mounted on the scabbard to secure the knife and fork. On the reverse, the scabbard is equipped with a hinged wooden kickstand for upright display. The steel blade of the knife is stamped with the mark INDIA.
Knife blade length: approximately 20 cm.
Condition report:
The set is in good vintage condition. Brass elements show visible tarnish and patina. There is some surface oxidation and minor pitting to the steel blade and fork tines. The wooden components exhibit light surface wear and minor scuffing consistent with age. The folding stand is functional.
