An assortment of mid-20th-century simulated pearl necklaces, primarily of British origin, presented in original and period-appropriate boxes. The collection features a Pompadour Pearls graduated strand labelled Pearls for a Princess in its original presentation box. A Lotus de luxe graduated strand is included, fitted with a silver-tone filigree clasp and housed in a maroon velvet box. The collection also contains a Felicity Opalescent graduated strand with a decorative silver-tone box clasp set with a clear paste stone, accompanied by a fragmentary paper guarantee. An H. Samuel uniform strand is present, featuring a gold-tone heart-shaped pendant clasp pavé-set with clear rhinestones, accompanied by a vintage Blacks re-stringing kit. Additionally, a teal-coloured jewellery box contains multiple strands of simulated pearls in both uniform and graduated styles. The necklaces are constructed using pearlised coatings over glass or plastic cores with base metal clasps in silver-tone and gold-tone finishes.
Condition report:
The collection is in vintage condition. While the simulated pearls appear well-preserved, the presentation boxes show varying degrees of age-related wear. Significant foxing, staining, and deterioration are visible on the interior satin and silk linings, particularly within the Pompadour and Felicity boxes. The exterior of the boxes shows some scuffing and wear to the hinges. Re-stringing is recommended for items intended for regular wear due to the age of the original threads.
