A collection of decorative jardinières and planters comprising both metal and ceramic examples. The metalware includes several footed pots, constructed from brass or copper alloy, featuring decorative handles and standing on ball-and-claw feet. The ceramic selection includes a botanical-themed planter with polychrome floral decoration, bearing the green MASON’S PATENT IRONSTONE MADE IN ENGLAND transfer mark to the base. Also included is a green-glazed art pottery vessel with relief-moulded organic decoration, stamped CH BRANNAM LTD. BRITISH MADE on the terracotta base. A cream-coloured planter with a scalloped rim is marked for WENLOCK POTTERY SHROPSHIRE ENGLAND and includes a local telephone number within the stamp. A yellow-glazed pot decorated with stylised motifs and fish features a red backstamp for KEWDOS LTD. The collection is further composed of various ribbed and plain-glazed earthenware and stoneware containers in a range of neutral and dark glazes.
Condition report:
The metal items exhibit characteristic surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with age. The ceramic pieces show varying degrees of surface wear, minor shelf wear to the bases, and crazing to the glazes. All items exhibit signs consistent with previous domestic use.
