Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two mid-20th-century wall-mounted aneroid barometers. The first is a circular wall barometer by Shortland Smith, featuring a dark-stained wooden frame. The gilt metal dial is printed with weather conditions in Gothic-style black lettering, including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry. The scale is graduated from 26 to 31 inches of mercury. The dial centre features a decorative scroll motif and is marked Compensated. It bears the winged SB logo for Shortland Smith, inscribed British Made Instrument, Made in England, and British Pats Applied For. It is fitted with a black indicator hand and a brass manually-adjustable setting hand. The second item is a combined weather station by Weathermaster, mounted on a shield-shaped mahogany-finish wooden plaque. The barometer features a silvered metal dial set within a brass ship’s wheel frame, graduated in both inches from 28 to 31 and millibars from 960 to 1060. The thermometer, mounted above, features a curved glass cover and a scale graduated from 0 to 30. Both the barometer and thermometer dials are marked Weathermaster.
Shortland Smith barometer diameter: approximately 20-25cm.

Condition report:

Items are sold as seen; working order has not been tested. Both items show typical signs of age and wear consistent with domestic use. The Weathermaster unit has a visible crack across the glass covering the barometer dial. The brass components on the Weathermaster station show signs of age-related tarnishing and surface oxidation.
