This group comprises an assortment of international coinage and a cased commemorative medal. A primary component is a gilt copper-alloy medal, dated 1821, featuring the St. George and Dragon design. This piece is housed in its original blue velvet-lined presentation case from M. Walters & Co., European Watchmakers and Manufacturing Jewellers, 17 Chowringhee, Calcutta. A black metal tin contains a group of UK brass threepence coins featuring the crowned portcullis reverse, including dates 1961 and 1966. Individual highlights include a 1776-1976 US Bicentennial Eisenhower dollar in a plastic flip; Hong Kong issues including a 1960 one dollar and 1961 fifty cents; and Portugal coinage featuring a 1990 bimetallic 100 escudos and 1988 fifty escudos. The collection includes scalloped-edged coins such as a 1951 Ceylon one cent and a 1954 India one anna, alongside a perforated George VI British West Africa one penny. Further world coins are present from France, Belgium, Hungary, Canada, and the Netherlands. Also included is a brown composition token for PARKING DEVELOPMENTS and two heavily patinated copper-alloy coins of indeterminate origin.
Condition report:
The collection is in mixed condition, ranging from heavily oxidized and corroded to uncirculated. The US Eisenhower dollar is preserved in uncirculated condition within a protective flip. The majority of the modern world coinage exhibits circulation wear consistent with fine to very fine grades. The UK brass threepence group is generally in very fine condition. The cased medal shows surface patination and minor wear, and the presentation case exhibits light exterior scuffing and age-related wear to the silk lining. The two unidentified copper-alloy coins show advanced verdigris and significant surface loss.
