A varied collection of marine specimens, minerals, and shell-work decorative items. The natural history specimens include a large central piece of white branching coral, possibly of the Acropora genus, and a dried knobby sea star with prominent blunt spines. The shell assortment features multiple gastropod and bivalve specimens, including Tiger Cowry shells (Cypraea tigris) with a polished finish and dark brown spotting, a large spiny murex-type shell resembling Chicoreus ramosus, and two elongated razor-style shells with tan and white banded patterns. Other shells include a spiral whelk and several smaller various specimens, some with blue and white markings.
The lot also contains folk art shell-work novelties, including a teddy bear figurine constructed from small white shells and a fish figurine fashioned from cowry shells with applied fins and red-toned eyes. Three small mineral or rock specimens in hues of reddish-brown and grey are also included. A small white adhesive label fragment bearing the digit 2 is present on the shelf surface near the shell-work fish.
Cataloguer note: Certain species of coral are subject to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations, which may restrict international shipment from the United Kingdom. Potential bidders should verify regulations if intending to export the lot.
Condition report:
The collection generally appears to be in good condition. Natural specimens exhibit minor inherent imperfections and surface dust is present. The shell-work figurines appear to be intact.
