Munky, a contemporary mixed media composition on stretched canvas. The artwork features a centrally recessed field containing two stylized figures in red and grey robes, set against a heavily textured background of cream impasto. This central section includes collage elements such as a burlap patch and pieces of corrugated cardboard. The composition is enclosed within a broad border of red and black paint with a distinctive craquelure effect. A vertical black and white striped band is situated on the right hand side, while a series of gilded, textured lumps are arranged along the bottom edge. The signature MUNKY is applied vertically in gold pigment to the left side of the work. The canvas edges are finished in black paint and it is presented unframed. The verso shows the wooden stretcher frame and includes two modern white plastic hanging brackets.
Condition report:
The surface displays heavy, intentional textural distress and impasto. Faint staining and discolouration are visible on the reverse of the canvas. Minor scuffing is present on the black painted edges. Light surface dust is present.
