Start price: £18

Estimated price: £18 - £30

Buyer's Premium:

A large mid-20th century Peruvian wool tapestry, hand-woven in a coiled or corded technique. The textile is constructed from thick, felted wool roving bound by fine horizontal warp threads, resulting in a heavy, three-dimensional ribbed texture across the entire surface. The modernist pictorial design is split into two primary zones: the left features an abstracted village scene with geometric architectural forms and a church-like spire, while the right depicts a large stylised human face with a prominent eye and red-tinted lips. The colour palette consists of terracotta, grey, cream, and black with red accents. A hand-stitched monogram in black thread, reading JS, is located in the upper right corner.

Condition report:

The tapestry is in good overall condition with well-preserved colours. There is minor fraying and some loose threads at the edges, which is consistent with the age and weight of the corded construction. No significant stains, losses, or repairs are visible.
