This lot comprises a diverse group of lighting items, consisting of traditional paraffin lamps, an electric table lamp, and a novelty decorative piece. The primary item is a large paraffin table lamp featuring an embossed light blue milk glass font decorated with scrolls and floral motifs. It is mounted on a heavy, tiered cast-metal base with decorative openwork. The lamp includes a frosted glass globe shade with etched floral patterns and a fluted blue-tinted rim, alongside a clear glass chimney. The burner assembly is fitted with a dual-knob wick adjuster.
The collection also includes a small electric table lamp with a glazed red ceramic body, gilt-tone scrolling accents, and a brass-coloured base. This lamp is topped with a conical, pleated fabric shade in a reddish-pink hue and is fitted with a UK standard bayonet cap (BC) bulb holder and brown twin-core flex.
Two miniature paraffin hand lamps are present, constructed from pressed metal with a light green painted finish and clear glass chimneys. One lamp has a rounded base, while the other features an integrated backplate and handle designed for wall mounting or carrying.
The final item is a novelty bottle light made from a standard clear glass 70cl Plymouth Gin bottle. The labels are intact and read PLYMOUTH GIN, HANDCRAFTED IN ENGLAND, AT ENGLAND’S OLDEST WORKING GIN DISTILLERY SINCE 1793, 70cl e BATCH-DISTILLED 41.2% Vol., Original Strength. The bottle contains a string of battery-operated copper wire LED fairy lights.
Condition report:
The blue milk glass lamp shows the glass components to be in good condition without significant chips or cracks, though the metal base and burner assembly exhibit age-related oxidation and surface wear. The red ceramic lamp is in generally good cosmetic condition; however, the electrical components are untested, and rewiring is recommended. The two miniature green hand lamps show significant signs of age, including notable paint loss, surface oxidation, and general wear to the metal bodies. The novelty bottle light is in good decorative condition. All oil lamps require cleaning and new wicks if intended for functional use.
