Buyer's Premium:

A collection of Southeast Asian decorative objects comprising Burmese Kalaga textiles and a carved hardwood side table. The textiles consist of a group of items including a framed tapestry and several cushion covers. These pieces are executed in the traditional Kalaga or shwe chi doe technique, featuring high-relief padded figures created with metallic threads, sequins, and glass beads on velvet or silk-style backings. The central motifs depict elephants, which are prominent symbols of wisdom and power in Burmese and Buddhist culture. The framed example is set against a black velvet ground within a wooden frame, while the cushion covers feature varying borders, including olive silk-style fabric and patterned brocade. Each cushion cover is fitted with a zippered reverse. The side table is constructed from carved hardwood with a reddish-brown stain and features two rectangular tiers with canted corners. It is supported by four legs carved in the form of stylised elephant heads, with the trunks descending to form the feet. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on any of the items.

Condition report:

The textiles are in generally good decorative condition with some minor loose threads and light tarnishing to the metallic components. The cushion covers show light creasing from handling and storage. The wooden table displays visible signs of age and use, including scuffing, scratching, and wear to the finish on both tiers. One carved tusk on an elephant leg appears to be missing or broken. The table remains structurally stable.
