This lot comprises a collection of approximately 23 vintage travel guides and maps, primarily featuring the Ward Lock and Co. Limited Red Guide series. These illustrated guide books are bound in the publisher’s original pictorial yellow and buff boards with red cloth spines. The collection includes titles covering various British regions and towns including North Wales (Northern and Southern Sections), East-Sussex Coast, Exmoor and Doone Country, South Wales, Isle of Wight, Northern Scotland, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bude, Cheltenham, Channel Islands, New Forest, The Cotswolds, West-Sussex Coast, Weymouth, Weston-super-Mare, The Thames, North Norfolk, Edinburgh, and Bridlington. A larger horizontal format volume titled Scotland with 28 Maps and Plans is also included. Accompanying the volumes is a Geographers’ A-Z London Map (Easy to Read) softcover fold-out map published by the Geographers’ Map Co. Ltd.
Condition report:
The collection shows typical signs of age and shelf wear. Many of the red cloth spines exhibit sun-fading, darkening, and minor fraying at the head and tail. Some boards show light soiling and minor corner bumps. The Scotland volume shows more significant wear and fraying to the cloth spine. The A-Z map shows light creasing and edge wear consistent with use. Internal maps and plans have not been individually checked for completeness. Overall, the collection is in good, collectable condition for its age.
