This lot comprises two vintage travel suitcases of British origin, dating from the mid-20th century. The first item is a brown Hempite compressed fibre suitcase, produced circa 1930s to 1950s. It is constructed with reinforced corners secured by metal rivets, a central metal lock, and two flip latches. The top is fitted with a stitched leather handle. The lid is monogrammed in black paint with the initials C.V.D. The interior is lined with a brown and cream striped paper and retains two original labels. An oval label reads WARRANTED HEMPITE COMPRESSED FIBRE, and a rectangular retailer label identifies Wagstaff and Son’s, Trunk and Bag Emporium, 22 Boscombe Arcade.
The second item is a large, dark brown suitcase manufactured by Revelation Luggage. It is constructed from vulcanised fibre or heavy leather with heavy-duty reinforced corners, metal studs, and prominent perimeter stitching. It features two large metal locks and a central leather handle. The front exterior is stencilled with the characters D H M – C H. A small metal plaque near the handle is embossed with REVELATION. The interior is lined with a plain, light-coloured fabric or paper and the inside of the lid bears a circular blue stamp for REVELATION LUGGAGE.
