Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium:

A mid-century high-back armchair constructed from dark-stained hardwood. The chair features a modified ladder-back design comprising five horizontal slats, each finished with a central downward-pointing cusp detail. The frame incorporates curved, open arms terminating in rounded fronts, with the seat hand-woven in tan-coloured cord using a traditional checkerboard pattern. The structure is supported by four square-section legs, with the rear legs canted for stability. A small white rectangular adhesive label marked S939R is located on the top back rail. The lot includes a small square footstool of later construction with four turned baluster-style legs in a honey-toned wood. The footstool seat is hand-woven with bicolour red and teal cord in a checkerboard pattern.

Condition report:

The armchair frame exhibits scattered surface scratches, minor scuffs, and small indentations consistent with age and use, particularly to the armrests and back posts. The tan cord seat remains intact and structurally sound, showing light surface soiling and general age-related discolouration. All joints are firm. The footstool legs show several surface scratches and minor losses to the finish, while the bicolour woven seat is in very good condition with no visible breaks or fraying to the cord.
