This lot comprises two distinct hand-carved wooden wall plaques depicting elephant heads. Both pieces are crafted from a dark-stained hardwood, consistent with tropical varieties such as teak or monkeypod wood. The first plaque features a smoother surface finish with stylised horizontal ribbing on the trunk and vertical carved lines on the ears; this example is designed without tusks. The second plaque exhibits a more intricate textured surface, with small indentations intended to simulate wrinkled elephant skin. It includes two inset white tusks, likely composed of bone or a synthetic resin, and the ears are decorated with radial carved ribbing. Both plaques are designed for wall mounting and show evidence of hand-tooling throughout. A small white adhesive label with the alphanumeric code D9638 is present on the upper right corner of the second plaque.
Condition report:
Both plaques exhibit an accumulation of dust and lint within the carved recesses and textures. There are minor surface scuffs and small abrasions consistent with age and handling. The second plaque shows visible residue, possibly from adhesive or wood filler, around the base where the tusks meet the head. The first plaque has a small white thread caught in the carving of the left ear. The overall structure of both pieces remains sound.
