Notable examples comprise multiple Arthur Cooper (Wine Merchant) Ltd boxes featuring vintage transport illustrations, hospitality labels for The Edgecumbe (Stoke, Plymouth) and Peter Dominic Ltd, and tobacco branding for Kensitas Fine Virginia. Also present are Devon Pale Ale labels, novelty Confucius say matchbooks, and various brands including Jasmin, Ohio Blue Tip, and Mecca Ltd. The lot contains a British Motor Fuel Ration Book, serial number MH 1054048, designated for a motor car of 1101-1500 C.C. (10-13 H.P.). Additional items include a small staple-bound novelty booklet titled HAPPY HOUR by J.T.C. featuring a clown illustration and a loose printed slip with a humorous anatomical verse titled NOW – ONE FOR THE LADIES!. The items are housed in a large rectangular hinged tin with the interior lid printed MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN / BURTON’S GOLD MEDAL BISCUITS LTD. / EDINBURGH & BLACKPOOL, and a square red OXO tin with BEEFY CUBE and JUBILEE lettering.
Condition report:
The advertising tins show significant signs of age and utility wear, including surface scratches, oxidation, rust (notably to the Burton’s tin), and minor dents. The matchbooks and boxes vary in condition; some are flattened for storage, others show worn striker strips, light staining, or foxing. The motor fuel ration book exhibits overall toning and creasing at the corners. The loose printed slip is folded and slightly yellowed.
