A large collection of elephant figurines comprising a variety of sizes, materials, and decorative styles. The assembly includes numerous ceramic and porcelain pieces, as well as metal and resin examples. Notable items within the group include several blue and white porcelain elephants featuring transfer-printed and hand-painted Chinoiserie and floral patterns. One of the larger blue and white pieces is a lidded trinket box in the form of an elephant. The collection also features Satsuma-style ceramic elephants with gilded highlights and raised moriage enamel decoration. Other porcelain figurines are decorated with polychrome floral sprays including roses and cherry blossoms. Indian-style mosaic elephants are present, decorated with mirrored glass segments, beads, and metallic thread. The collection includes small cast metal and resin figurines, some with turquoise-coloured inlay. The figurines are depicted in various poses, including many with trunks raised.
Labels and marks include a white adhesive label on the blue and white trinket box printed with Shobrook and Co, 198, Plymouth. One small porcelain elephant carries a handwritten tag marked £7.00. No manufacturer backstamps or specific maker’s marks are visible on the pieces.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good decorative condition. There is visible surface dust across the group and light crazing to the glaze on several of the ceramic items. Due to the quantity and the delicate nature of the figurines, specifically the protruding trunks and ears, some minor chips or old repairs may be present.
