Buyer's Premium:

A collection of vintage literature predominantly focused on crime fiction, adventure, and local history. A significant portion of the group comprises an extensive run of Agatha Christie mass-market paperbacks, primarily published by Fontana and Pan Books. Visible titles include The ABC Murders, Ten Little Niggers, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Poirot Investigates, The Seven Dials Mystery, The Secret of Chimneys, Sleeping Murder, and The Moving Finger. The crime and thriller section further includes works by Raymond Chandler (The Long Goodbye), Dashiell Hammett (The Maltese Falcon), Georges Simenon (Maigret series), Peter Cheyney, Edgar Wallace, and A.E.W. Mason. Adventure and juvenile fiction is represented by authors such as P.C. Wren (Beau Sabreur, The Wages of Virtue) and G.A. Henty (In Times of Peril, published by Blackie and Son). Hardcover non-fiction and miscellaneous titles include The Complete Book of Fortune in pictorial cloth with star and pyramid design, Derby Remembering 1914-18 by Dr. Mike Galler, English Social History by G.M. Trevelyan, and various annuals including The Gambols and Preview Film Album. The lot also contains an Armed Services Edition of Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. Bindings consist of publisher’s cloth, pictorial boards, and original paper wrappers.

Condition report:

The collection shows varying degrees of age-related wear consistent with handled vintage books. The paperbacks exhibit significant tanning to the page edges, creasing and rubbing to the spines, and occasional edge chipping. Hardcover volumes display shelf wear, bumped corners, and fraying at the spine heads and tails. Foxing is present on the cloth and endpapers of several older volumes. The Armed Services Edition shows heavy creasing and edge wear. Occasional loose hinges and spine damage are noted among the older cloth-bound titles.
